Mixed media Journey continues

Hi Crafty Bloggers

I have been so inspired by MaremiSmallArt on youtube and at Maremiscreative cafe on facebook that I have been enjoying learning mixed media and it reminds me of my younger days when I used to love drawing and painting .

First up I have made a handmade journal with envelopes from a video tutorial on her channel had so much fun decorating I love that there is never a real plan and its awesome to see how it turns out !!

I have used designer papers on the chipboard cover and lightly put on a coat of white guesso .  I have glued all the metal ,chipboard pieces and resin with E6000 mostly all from the trinket parlour on facebook . I then lightly paint the pieces with a dry brush with guesso . Once dried I have used prima watercolor confections in pastel dreams to colour applying with a brush .

Lastly I added some pearls and used a gold metallic gelato to highlight.

A shot of the inside the clasp closes with some wax cord

Here is some of the texture paste that I had also used with a Tim Holtz stencil  to add interest before applying the watercolor.

Here is my first page inside the journal after the pastels I wanted some colour . I have used Tim Holtz distress crayons directly in stripes and used my finger to blend out . I then used a baby wipe on the Tim Holtz stencil to remove the wax to leave white dots and then used the same stencil with a black crayon for the darker dots.
I had watched another video where we were encouraged to use test pages and had made the watercolor flowers , I used a circle punch to cut them out . I have used a black crayon to smudge around the flowers and white gel pen to add highlights . Thread was added for the stalks and lastly stamped butterfly's on the waste test paper to create the butterflies . I have use Tim Holtz chit chat stickers to finish .

There is a wonderful challenge at the creative cafe that is called 52cafecards .
For A & B the challenge was Art & Bubbles .
I have used Prima Vintage Alphabet cards as the base . A light coat of guesso first to prime . The first I used gelatos and a water spray with stencils for texture and a harlequin stamp . I splattered some paint and used a die cut for the art and sticker for the word . The second I used prima art alchemy paint on top of a stencil with texture paste . I used a black pen to outline and then stamped the words on paper and cut and corner chomped the sentiment . Lastly some bling !! and white gel pen to finish !!

The next part of the challenge is C for Coffee & D for Dragonfly
I played with textures in the first using sand texture paste and cheesecloth . I then added distress ink with water to the textures . I have used darkroom door stamps to cut out the coffee cup stain and coffee word and then used distress inks and gel pen to colour , The last ATC I have used a stencil with texture paste using distress prima watercolours to colour with some water and to paint the chippies . I have added a bling dragonfly and words sticker to finish .

Next up is E for eclipse so looking forward to getting crafty soon .
Mixed media  tips I have learned so far
1. Always use inks with water on craft mat don't apply straight to project .
2. Water down guesso or use chalk paint over design papers with script you want to show through .
3, Spread out glue and dry evenly to stop warping of paper .
4. Dry each layer before adding another
5. Do not use heat gun for texture paste as it looks great when all puffed out but goes flat again when you touch it .
5. Leave white spray to the very end and practice a light mist as hard to cover over if too much applied.
6. Do not be afraid just do it !!! have fun  there is no pressure to be the best mixed media artist and every artist has there own interpretation <3

Thanks for visiting and hope you are inspired to try new things !!
Sending Crafty Hugs
